The Beehive

23 May 2023

‘The Beehive,’ a short animation, follows the story of a young adult who has migrated to South Africa. It aims to raise awareness – especially among those working with children on the move – around the nuanced complexity of their realities, pasts and present.

This story is fictional: it is a “patchwork story,” woven together from different sentences and phrases as said by young adults (who migrated to South Africa as children) and those working with migrant youth (such as social workers or child and youth care workers). It was written and created in May 2023 as part of an initiative between The Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town and UNICEF South Africa.

If you, or someone you know, needs information about accessing services for children and youth on the move, you can contact one of the following organisations:

The Centre for Child Law (www.centreforchildlaw.co.za, 012 420 4502) or
