Services at Lawrence House
Lawrence House, based in Woodstock, is registered with the Department of Social Development. The House can accommodate up to 25 children and youth.
Lawrence House provides a safe and caring environment where children and youth displaying psychological, emotional and behavioural challenges can embark on journeys of healing and recovery. The goal is for these young people to become equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to manage themselves and to successfully reintegrate into society.
Core interventions centre around topics of identity, sense of belonging and self-discovery as central aspects of a healing and growth journey.
Learning routines, adapting to a structured environment and setting scholastic goals are other essential aspects. Finally, a dedicated programme aims at ensuring a successful transition from institutionalised living to independence.
Lawrence House is dedicated to upholding the best interests of separated refugee children and unaccompanied minors and to promoting the understanding of their plight. This is achieved by combining care and protection services with a much-needed advocacy agenda to bring about meaningful change for all foreign displaced children in South Africa. Lawrence House continues to be at the forefront of creating new programmatic responses to the growing complexity of needs displayed by young people in institutionalised care.
