The Scalabrini Welfare team offers assistance to any migrants / refugees. Through a process of consultation the team is able to assist the individual by ensuring that they gain access to basic social services such as medical care, schooling, a bank account, shelter and legal assistance to obtain or regularise their documentation.
Any infringement on their basic human rights is referred to our Advocacy Rights Officer who works to ensure that people are not discriminated against. Issues such as access to disability grants or documentation are followed up. Reports of hate crimes or xenophobia are recorded and a background check is conducted. Victims are referred to South African Human Rights Commission or other partner organizations.
The Welfare Desk is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.00 – 16.30
